DraftKings and NFLPA Reach Settlement Over NFT Dispute

DraftKings has settled a lawsuit filed by the Nationwide Soccer League Gamers Affiliation (NFLPA) over the closure of its non-fungible token (NFT) market and breach of contract.

In a joint submitting made on Monday in New York federal court docket, each events confirmed they’d reached a settlement in precept. They requested a short pause to finalize the settlement. 

The NFLPA’s lawsuit, filed on August 26, argued that DraftKings tried to terminate a contract signed in 2021, which allowed the corporate to make use of the names, photographs, and likenesses of NFL gamers for its now-closed NFT market. 

The affiliation claimed that by shutting down the platform, DraftKings was attempting to keep away from paying round $65 million in assured funds owed beneath the contract.

DraftKings formally shut down its Reignmakers NFT recreation and market on the finish of July 2024. This transfer adopted a market decline and a authorized problem wherein DraftKings was being sued by NFT patrons who accused the corporate of promoting unregistered securities.
